Digital Document Retrieval - University of Oregon Special Collections

If you need access to archival materials at University of Oregon's Knight Library but find yourself unable to travel here, I am glad to assist.

Services:

  • Research

  • Image capture (at your preferred resolution)

  • Optional Character Recognition (OCR) to searchable PDFs*

Equipment:

  • CZUR Aura Pro overhead document camera.

  • Nikon D3500 SLR camera for capturing larger images, including full-size newspapers and maps.

Process:

I provide you with a personalized Dropbox folder. Within this folder, you will find your digital images organized by collection, box, and folder, with each image named and numbered. For example, if acquiring box 83, folder 8 of the Le Guin papers, your files will be named as follows:

File path: le_guin | box 83 | box 83 folder 8 |

  • le_guin_box_83_folder_8_1.jpg

  • le_guin_box_83_folder_8_2.jpg

Costs:

I charge $45 per hour, billed in 15-minute increments with a $25 minimum charge.

*OCR conversion is available for an additional $.10c per page.

Payment Options:

I offer flexible payment options, including PayPal, Venmo, and standard checks.

To request service:

Contact me via email with your request and a projected deadline for services rendered. I will keep you updated during the process.

On completion, I typically release one folder for you to peruse, and then I make all folders available upon completed payment. I can also provide samples at the outset to assure the work is the quality you are seeking. If the job is large (one that will typically take me several days) I may request a modest deposit.

I look forward to assisting you in your research!
